Optics Fabrication
Large. Challenging. Precise.
At QED Optics®, we specialize in tackling custom, challenging projects that push the boundaries of optical manufacturing.
From aerospace to astronomy, QED Optics delivers high-performance optics fabrication built for mission-critical applications.
Precision at Scale
Fabricate optics up to one meter in diameter with unmatched tolerances and surface quality. Every component is built for mission-ready performance.
Metrology-Driven Process
Our process is built on state-of-the-art testing and verification, ensuring every optic meets exacting specifications from design through delivery.
Tailored for Your Application
From defense to deep space, our fabrication approach adapts to your system’s needs with custom setups, geometries, and finishing strategies.
Comprehensive Fabrication Capabilities
QED Optics offers a comprehensive suite of optics fabrication services tailored to meet the diverse needs of industries ranging from defense and aerospace to high-energy systems, astronomy, and research. Our capabilities encompass a wide array of materials, shapes, sizes, and tolerances to meet the demands of complex, application-specific projects.
Materials and Geometries We Support
We work with all optical glass, glass ceramic, and single crystal materials, with the flexibility to evaluate other substrates case by case. Our fabrication capabilities cover flats, spheres, on- and off-axis aspheres—with particular strengths in off-axis parabolas—and freeform geometries. We can fabricate optics up to one meter in diameter.
Metrology at the Core of Every Build
Metrology is a particular focus at QED Optics. We offer measurement capabilities and analyses across a broad spatial range. Low-order figure errors are minimized to the interferometric limit; midspatial errors are analyzed using slope, spatial frequency binning, and Power Spectral Density (PSD) analyses; and surface roughness is typically less than 5 Å RMS, verified by white light interferometry.
State-of-the-Art Finishing Technologies
QED Optic’s advanced finishing technologies include Magnetorheological Finishing (MRF®) for optics up to one meter, full-aperture interferometry (including null and CGH setups and subaperture stitching), non-contact profilometry (NMF™ up to one meter), laser tracking, and CMM inspection.
Tailored Solutions for Every Industry
We customize fabrication processes to the unique requirements of each market we serve.
