Q-flex® MRF-100

The Q-flex Series

Built on the proven precision and determinism of Magnetorheological Finishing (MRF®) finishing, QED Technologies® Q-flex systems provide the flexibility of a modular design in a truly production-ready platform. With a focus on ease of use, Q-flex enables faster cycle times and exceptional results across challenging geometries —from flats and spheres to aspheres and freeforms.

Optimized for Precision and Agility

The MRF-100 is the most compact member of the Q-flex family, offering unmatched precision in a smaller footprint. It’s ideal for labs and production environments where space is limited, or for users primarily working with small to mid-sized optics. The system delivers the full power of MRF in a streamlined package perfect for achieving ultra-precise results without overextending capacity.

The Flex Advantage

Modular configurations and adaptable software modes allow the Q-flex platform to handle a wide range of shapes, sizes and materials with ease.

Proven MRF technology ensures precise, predictable, and repeatable finishing results every time.

The Q-flex platform is designed with uptime and repeatability in mind, streamlining workflows for high-volume production.

Intuitive software, automated alignment, and smart fluid management make operation and clean-up fast, simple, and consistent.

Compatible MRF Heads

In minutes, MRF heads can be changed from 10 mm to 150 mm sizes to accommodate your polishing needs. Heads can be selected to optimize polishing tool sizes (spot), concave part radius, freeform capability, and more. Larger heads sizes enable faster polishing of larger parts, while smaller heads reduce edge exclusion.

Improved Fluid Control

The Fluid Control Module (FCM) houses the fluid delivery system hardware and controls in a single package. The FCM provides calibrated and repeatable performance, improving fluid stability. MRF fluid can be maintained in bypass mode within the base of the machine. The electronic fluid measuring system (EFMS) provides improved fluid strength monitoring and control, helping to extend the usable life of the fluid.

Customizable Software

Q-flex software modes are designed to meet a full range of polishing requirements.

Rotational Mode achieves high removal rates on symmetric optics and smooths single-point diamond turning marks. Optional Rotational Freeform and Variable Plunge upgrades expand your ability to polish more shapes—faster and with greater precision.

Raster Mode is ideal for non-round optics and for correcting mid-spatial frequency errors. Upgrades to Raster Freeform and Raster Variable Plunge further enhance flexibility, enabling efficient polishing of spherical and aspherical optics.
